UCI Medical Center

UCI Medical Center is a 459-bed acute care hospital providing tertiary and quaternary care, ambulatory and specialty medical, behavioral health and rehabilitation services. Located in Orange, it is the primary teaching location for the UCI School of Medicine.

The county’s first Joint Commission-designated Comprehensive Stroke Center.

Only combined Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma facility in Orange County.

Only Gold Level 1 geriatric emergency department in Orange County accredited by the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Opened the first two Federally Qualified Health Centers in Orange County to provide clinical care for underserved communities.

Home to the first and only adult hematopoietic stem cell/bone marrow transplant program in Orange County.

Member of the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine’s Cell and Gene Therapy Manufacturing Network in recognition of UC Irvine’s leading role in cell and gene therapy for Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s diseases, spinal cord injury and stroke.

Home to the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only National Cancer-Institute designated comprehensive cancer center based in Orange County and one of only 57 nationally.

Expanding Footprints

To complement the flagship 459-bed hospital in Orange and service sites across the region, UCI Health is adding 1,054 beds and 4,400 co-workers. We have already added 858 of those beds through our expanding community network. This ongoing expansion makes it easier for people to access academic healthcare and services closer to home, advancing our mission to serve the residents of California and drive innovation in clinical care for all patients.

UCI Health – Irvine
Opening from April 2024 to late 2025
UCI Health – Irvine is a new 1.2 million-square-foot medical campus under construction near the main university campus. Opening from April 2024 to late 2025, the new UCI Health – Irvine includes a 144-bed hospital with 24-hour emergency services, a cancer and ambulatory surgery building, and an outpatient building for child and adult services, including urgent care. It will be the centerpiece of a redeveloped UCI north campus, a 202-acre collection of healing gardens, “nature-scapes” and a research preserve within the adjacent San Joaquin Marsh Reserve. Our outpatient facility for adult and pediatric specialty care and urgent care, the Joe C. Wen & Family Center for Advanced Care is a five-story, 168,000-square-foot medical facility offering a wide range of multidisciplinary specialty care for children and adults under a single roof, urgent care services, and the UCI Health Center for Autism & Neurodevelopmental Disorders. The Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and Ambulatory Care building is a five-story, 225,000-square-foot tower with 52 private exam rooms, 42 infusion bays and eight outpatient operating rooms. A recognized beacon of hope and innovation, our cancer program is the only Orange County-based National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. A state-of-the-art 144-bed, 10 outpatient OR suite, acute care hospital with a 24-hour emergency room. Our new hospital will be the first medical campus powered by an all-electric central utilities plant and will connect with the UCI Health primary care network throughout Orange County, comprising the region’s only health system supported by one of the nation’s premier academic research institutions.
UCI Health Community Network
Established in March 2024
The UCI Health Community Network was established with the acquisition of four new hospitals and ambulatory sites, adding 858 beds to the care system. Benefiting from the academic healthcare innovation and expertise of UCI Health, the community network now brings convenient and compassionate care closer to home at new locations.

UCI Health Rehabilitation Hospital
Opening in 2025
UCI Health Rehabilitation Hospital will be a two-story, 52-bed hospital. The facility will be structurally designed in all units for the needs of patients receiving acute inpatient rehabilitation care for stroke, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, amputation and other injuries and disorders.
