Construction is moving right along for the Falling Leaves Foundation Medical Innovation Building. The formwork for the Level 3 deck has been successfully put in place and concrete placement for the deck has begun. The foundation for the Research Offices has been installed and work on the vertical formwork is currently underway. Starting on November 9, 2023, we will begin the installation of a construction elevator. The mock-up for our project has been successfully installed and ongoing reviews are being conducted to ensure the quality and accuracy of the project.

The 215,000 square feet Falling Leaves Foundation Medical Innovation Building (FLFMIB), part of the Health Sciences District, is scheduled to open in 2025. Made possible by a generous $30 million lead gift from Dr. Robert Mah & Dr. Adeline Yen Mah’s Falling Leaves Foundation, FLFMIB will be among the largest buildings on the West Coast dedicated to basic and translational research and training. The edifice’s design embodies UCI’s One Health no-silos approach to world-changing progress. Created in every aspect for collaborative “bench to bedside” research, elite teams of UCI investigators working on some of the world’s most intractable health problems will join forces in cutting-edge labs that facilitate groundbreaking multidisciplinary discovery. Programs for the building are currently being selected through an extremely competitive proposal review process. To enter the building, programs must have the potential to change the face of biomedical research and care. Moreover, programs must also meet philanthropic targets.
