To continue leading in interprofessional education and practice (IPEP), Health Affairs created the IPEP Collaborative, a collective of 14 faculty members appointed by Deans and supported by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs. The group serves to facilitate existing and new collaborations across units and is intended to enhance ongoing IPE or curricular efforts within each school.
“The IPEP Collaborative is yet one more example of UCI’s One Health structure—which unites world-leading experts in medicine, nursing, pharmaceutical sciences, public health, and integrative health —to advance the frontiers of knowledge through research and education and provide leading-edge care,” says Steve A.N. Goldstein, vice chancellor of Health Affairs. “One of our strategic priorities is to educate the next-generation healthcare workforce, one that knows how to provide team-based, whole-person care. The IPE Collaborative is doing just that.”
UCI’s IPEP Collaborative seeks to transform health professions education and health care delivery by fostering community-centered partnerships, collaborative learning, interprofessional research and continued interprofessional practice advancements. Over the last year, the collaborative has developed curriculum for learners across health affairs, created continuing education opportunities for faculty and practitioners, conceptualized IPEP research projects and developed community engagement events and outreach.
Some of the upcoming projects spearheaded by the IPEP Collaborative include a K-12 outreach event, a community health fair and an interprofessional education conference for faculty and staff.
“The IPEP Collaborative has exceeded expectations, achieving remarkable outcomes beyond the initial vision. Faculty engagement, passion, and productivity have fueled our success this year, leading to innovative initiatives such as the IPEP opioid campus safety taskforce, a high school student early careers pathways conference, and an impactful IPEP conference,” says Stephanie Au, assistant clinical professor of nursing and chair of the IPEP collaborative. “The collaborative synergy across Health Affairs units, guided by visionary leadership from the College of Health Sciences and strong support from the Vice Chancellor, not only champions crucial IPEP engagement but also further solidifies a foundation for achievement. I am truly honored to be part of this exceptional journey to help continue UCI’s leadership in IPEP.”
